North Queensland Cowboys
The Nth Qld Cowboys were introduced to the NRL in 1995 and played in the Super League in 1997. It took nine seasons for the club to make its maiden finals appearance after finishing many years at the root of the Premiership ladder. The Cowboys have now become a regular in finals football, making their maiden Grand Final appearance in 2005 whilst also making Preliminary finals in 2004 and 2007.

Newcastle Knights
With inspirational captain Danny Buderus leaving the Newcastle Knights at the end of season 2008, the days when Buderus and Andrew Johns would lead the Knights to victory are now over. A team effort from 2009 onwards is now required to steer Newcastle back to its glory days when it won two premierships inside five NRL seasons in 1997 and 2001. The Knights will be boosted by the installation of coaching legend Wayne Bennett in 2012, appointed by new club owner and mining magnate Nathan Tinkler.

With the merging of the Balmain Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies, the Wests Tigers were admitted to the NRL in 2000. It took only five seasons for the newly established Tigers outfit to register its first premiership in 2005, when Benji Marshall and Scott Prince led Wests to a memorable Grand Final victory over the Nth Qld Cowboys.
The Manly Sea Eagles were founded in 1947 and have played at Brookvale Oval since their inception. The Sea Eagles were at the peak of their powers during the 1970’s where they won four Premierships out of the seven they have achieved so far in their history. Manly’s 40-0 Grand Final triumph over the Storm in 2008 is now the biggest victory margin achieved by any Australian Rugby League team in a Premiership decider.
The Melbourne Storm became the first rugby league club to represent Victoria when they were introduced to the NRL in 1998. It only took a year for the Storm to win their first Premiership with victory against the Dragons in front of over 100,000 people at Stadium Australia. Since then, Melbourne have become the dominating force in the NRL, winning their second Premiership in 2007 and making two more Grand Finals in 2006 and 2008.
Since their inception to the NRL in 2007, the Cold Coast Titans have had to rely heavily on key recruits Scott Prince, Preston Campbell, Matt Rogers and Luke Bailey for results. As is the case with most new sides, injuries have derailed the Titans’ finals cause in their first two NRL seasons.
Despite entering the NSW Rugby league Premiership in 1967, the Cronulla Sharks are yet to register a first grade title in over 40 years of competition. Despite this, the Sharks have unearthed some of the game’s finest players headed by League legends Steve Rogers and Andrew Ettingshausen. The closest Cronulla have gotten to a Premiership victory was in their three Grand final losses in 1973, 1978 and 1997.
As one of the two remaining foundation clubs in Australian Rugby League, and with 20 Premierships under their belt, the South Sydney Rabbitohs are the most successful club in Australian Rugby League history. Recent times however have seen the Rabbitohs venture near the bottom of the NRL ladder with an exception being in 2007 when South Sydney made its first finals appearance since 1989. Souths have added star Greg Inglis, Dave Taylor and Sam Burgess in recent times as they attempt to once again become a force
1982 signalled the arrival of the Canberra Raiders who were responsible for unearthing some of Australian Rugby League’s greatest ever players. With a team containing Mal Meninga, Laurie Daley, Bradley Clyde and the Walter brothers, the Raiders achieved back to back Premierships in 1989 and 1990, before succumbing to the Panthers in 1991. Since then, times have been difficult for the Raiders with injuries and player exodus often plaguing the club’s Premiership aspirations, but the club appear to the once again rebuilding upon a foundation of local talent, such as Josh Dugan and Josh McCrone.
