The St George Illawarra Dragons became the NRL’s first joint venture club after it merged with the Illawarra Steelers and the St George Dragons. After losing the 1999 Grand Final to Melbourne in the inaugural year, the Dragons’ faithful endured several years of heartache, before master coach Wayne Bennett steered the club to the premiership in 2010, and have built a strong outfit around the likes of Jamie Soward, Matt Cooper and Mark Gasnier.
